We will be a small Montessori primary school, with small class sizes.
Children have the right to come to school where they are understood, discover the excitement of learning, and can do well.
We believe that this is possible with small class sizes, teachers free to teach, parent participation, and Montessori curriculum and approach.
We are an inclusive school and welcome children from all faiths and none. We also have a Christian character in the Anglican tradition.
In the summer of 2010, arrangements changed to allow state funding of new independent schools that are free to choose a different approach to education. Under these arrangements we are able to offer all places without fees.
At Discovery New School with small class sizes, children will be able to reach their individual potential. Discovery children will be motivated and independent learners, essential for later success including GCSE, A level and University.
Children in a class of 16 will be given more attention than in a class of 30. Teachers are free to do more teaching and less administration and your children will enjoy coming to school. Hooray!
Children realise their potential when they are allowed to progress at the right pace for them. Teachers use their knowledge of a child to present the next piece of work at the appropriate time. Skipping over work that is not understood because the whole class needs to move on causes problems later.
As a Montessori school we will mostly teach children individually or in small groups, so there is no time wasted either bored or confused. We also place high value in getting to know each child well, so we can tailor our teaching to them. We believe in meeting the needs, as much as possible, for each child as an individual.
Our aim is always for DNS children to enjoy their work, make friends and have high aspirations for themselves in all areas of the curriculum and more widely in life. We teach them to respect others and to be confident in their unique talents and abilities.
