Discovery New School will prepare children well for success at secondary schools and at University. We will also keep in touch with our alumni, offering advice and guidance well into their secondary years including UCAS form checking! Just like a parent never stops being a parent, at DNS we are committed to being a friendly, caring ear even when your child is 16, 17,18,19,20....
We envision that children from Discovery New School will choose from a number of senior schools (see below for details).
The choice of your child's next school will depend on your home location, your personal preferences, your child's friendship groups, personality and their ambitions for the future. DNS teachers are always happy to discuss your choice with you, or simply be a 'sounding board' for parents. We will also run a special parents meeting when your child is in year 5 to help inform your choice.
It is advisable to consider
Academic results?
Choice of subject?
Any specialism (is your child really musical, do they have a good music department?)
Culture of success or not?
Well behaved children?
Inspiring, helpful staff?
Cost, if any?
Likelihood of getting a place?
11 plus (is this right for your child?)
Finally (and perhaps most importantly) does it feel right?
